Volunteers

GET INVOLVED TODAY

Volunteers are essential to our success and provide a wide range of services such as cooking and serving meals, playing with children or helping them with homework, interacting with guests with respect and compassion, and providing overnight security. The network depends on its success through its volunteers.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Family Promise of Martin County! Complete the application below to become a volunteer.

Event Angels

Each year, we host two main events: Bed Races and the Food for Thought Breakfast. Although very different events, we look for volunteers to be on committees and help us chair, plan, and run the events. We also host smaller events, as well: Thankful Tuesday/Thursday’s and Program Nights for our families.

We are in need of volunteers with all different types of skills, including:

  • Logistics
  • Entertainment
  • Food & Beverage (F&B)
  • Sponsors, etc.

Family Center Angels

Weekday morning, evening, and weekend opportunities to serve. Shifts will include opening the family center to allow families to shower, etc.

Supply Angels

This role will check supplies that are running low and order replacements or solicit donations from congregations, schools, or businesses. Will keep staff informed of needs. Items needed regularly include mattresses, laundry detergent, dish soap, towels, plastic cutlery, plates, baby wipes, and diapers. Must be able to lift 25+ pounds and be comfortable standing for long periods.

Childcare

We need volunteers that are willing to watch over our youngest guests while parents attend program nights. These volunteers will supervise activities with play games, and handle childcare duties as needed. Must be able to lift 25+ pounds and be comfortable interacting with little ones.

Adopt-A-Family Angels

We ask loving community members to donate monthly (1-year commitment) to help a specific family’s needs. Donations can go toward household essentials, school supplies, or items that help the family achieve independence. Adopt-A-Family Angels will be informed about the family’s changing needs and how they can help support an impact.

Movers

We need help moving from time to time—it may be to pick up furniture being donated, items being relocated, or assisting families in moving into a new place. We need people who are able to lift heavy objects, move furniture in/out of a truck, and climb stairs.

Maintenance

Determine maintenance needs at the Family Center and respond to maintenance requests. Tasks may include repairs and other improvements. Can be a group or solo effort. Some maintenance requires the ability to lift 50+ lbs and be comfortable standing on a ladder.

Drivers

We need drivers when guest families do not have transportation. Drivers may be booked for times when guests need to be transported to and from the Family Center or the Host Congregation.

Cleaning Crew

Volunteers to deep clean the Family Center on a weekly basis. There will also be opportunities to help with organizing donations, tidying up, and other small tasks.

Open Table

The Open Table is a different kind of volunteerism. The Open Table uses a community-based, bottom-up, grassroots model to draw together the relational and social capital of communities — Relational Assets — for the common good. We partner our guests with tables—a group of 4-5 dedicated volunteers that want to make a difference in the lives of one of our guest families. This position includes training through The Open Table, and involves a weekly or bi-weekly 2-hour commitment to meet with the family and support them in their efforts to become self-sufficient and independent. You become not only mentors but family. To learn more, visit: https://www.theopentable.org/

Actors

Thankful Tuesday/Thursdays are impactful evenings that are only successful if we have guests to attend, and ACTORS to portray the homeless families we hear from every. single. day. These volunteers can be groups from local high schools, theaters, churches, etc. We are looking for adults and children. Roles will be provided upon signing up for a particular evening.
